Amos spent his youth in Turku, where he studied at the commercial institute from 1896 to 1898. In his spare time, he socialised with, among others, Otto Andersson, the future professor of musicology and folk poetry at Åbo Akademi University; Gösta Wahlström, who later became a doctor; as well as the sculptor Felix Nylund. Amos and his friends lived for a time as lodgers in Turku, for example with the widow Josefina Sorthan. They often spent their summers at her summer house in Naantali.
