Perhaps Amos’s most important project as a Member of Parliament was to campaign for state funding for the renovation of Turku Cathedral. Medieval church architecture was of particular interest to him, and he regarded the renovation as a matter of national importance. To promote this cause, Amos contributed to the publication of the book Medieval Church Art in Finland in 1921. A copy of the work was also personally presented by Amos to Pope Pius XI in Rome. Despite the granting of state funding, the prolonged project ended up requiring Amos’s own financial contribution. He was also a member of the renovation committee between 1922 and 1929.
