Amos had grand visions for the renovation of the cathedral. One of these was to organise a stained-glass window competition for Finnish artists in 1924. The idea was that the church should be adorned with stained-glass windows in line with its medieval history. First prize was shared between Magnus Enckell’s Dies and Henry Ericsson’s Vetro. However, the project came to nothing, as the archbishop at the time, Gustaf Johansson, felt that the colour scheme of the stained-glass windows was too Catholic. Despite this setback, Amos acquired the sketches, which he later hung in his home on Yrjönkatu in Helsinki.
