Although the renovation of the cathedral was not as extensive as Amos had hoped, it was clear that the renovated church had come to hold great national significance. A few days before the official reopening, a large Lotta Svärd meeting (voluntary auxiliary paramilitary organization for Finnish women was held at the cathedral. The inauguration service marking the church’s 700th anniversary on 18 June 1929 was attended by President Relander and his wife, former President Ståhlberg, and General Mannerheim.
