The funding for the renovation of Kimito church in 1920–1922 was of great significance to Amos, as it was in this church that he had his confirmation. He was also involved in the planning of the stained-glass window in the chancel, which was designed by the architect Armas Lindgren and produced at Salomo Wuorio’s glassworks by Hugo Lindqvist and Gunnar Forsström. A persistent belief holds that the Virgin Mary in the painting bears a resemblance to Amos’s mother and that Amos himself is depicted as the figure on the left among the three wise men. In reality, the figures (from left to right) are Petrus Murator, master mason at Turku Cathedral; Fredrik Gabriel Hedberg, vicar of Kimito, Amos’s confirmation sponsor and founder of the Evangelical movement; and Sigfridus Aronus Forsius, vicar of Kimito in the 17th century and later also professor of astronomy at Uppsala University. The central importance of the church to Amos is also reflected in the fact that his art collection includes several works featuring motifs of Kimito church.
