Although Söderlångvik was originally intended as Amos’ summer residence, he often stayed there at other times of the year as well. Extensive renovations transformed the estate into his second home.
In the beautifully decorated house, visitors can see, among other things, the room where President Svinhufvud stayed overnight during a hunting trip in 1940, as well as the so-called ‘billiard room’ with Rococo-style furnishings, which were created in 1918 for Finland’s intended king, Prince Friedrich Karl of Hesse, and purchased by Amos at Stockmann after Finland was declared a republic in 1919.
The garage of Söderlångvik, designed by his architect friend W.G. Palmqvist, is adorned with caryatids that were saved from Svenska Teatern, the Swedish theatre, in Helsinki during the 1935–1936 renovation financed by Amos.
