Teaching at Vreta Folk School was led by the teachers Nils Oskar Jansson and Adèle Weman. Both went on to play an important role in Amos’s life long after his school days, and he later supported them also financially during their retirement. Weman was particularly significant; her encouragement and interest in the theatre, amongst other things, made a strong impression on Amos. A poem she wrote on 13 April 1920 clearly reveals her devotion to him:
Yes, even back when you sat at your little desk
at school, I remember it so well,
how you would laugh one moment, weep the next,
a reflection of your sensitive soul.
It was precisely that play of shifting emotions
that bound my heart to you,
so lively on the surface, yet so tender within,
your emotional world captivated me.
