Lindén-Pons cello / Pentti Hildén guitar – From Córdoba to Stormskär

  • 15.06.2025 17.30—18.30

Pentti Hildén, together with the cellist Helen Lindén-Pons, will set out on a joint tour in the summer of 2025. The tour kicks off in Uusimaa, Finland and will then continue in southern France.

The repertoire consists of Spanish classics (Albéniz, Granados and de Falla in arrangements adapted for cello and guitar), a sonata by the Brazilian Radames Gnattali, and in the concerts taking place in Finland, the performance will feature familiar Finnish melodies as well (Sibelius, Harri Wessman, and Lasse Mårtenson).

Pentti Hildén and Helen Lindén-Pons began their collaboration with a project that combined the works of the Beatles and those of Bellman. The project inspired the two artists and brought about a desire to explore further repertoire suitable for their specific combination of instruments. A grant from Svenska Kulturfonden enabled the musicians to plan out a concert tour; a tour that would include performances both in Finland and France in 2025.

For this ongoing project, the duo selected their personal favourites from Spain, Brazil, and Finland. The material is largely performed in the duo’s own fresh arrangements. The Spanish element emerges naturally through the characteristic sound of the guitar, and the expressivity of the cello lends an augmentative property in this context, forming an euphonic whole. Gnattali’s captivating and rhythmic Sonata highlights another part of the “Latin” cultural sphere. Mårtenson, Wessman and Sibelius are “old acquaintances” for the duo —literally in the case of the former two— thus, the decision to choose their pieces to represent the Nordic dimension came naturally.

The concert will be held in the museum
