Drop-in workshop in Alma Cottage 11-16: learn to make traditional Ukrainian Pysanky Easter eggs

Pysanka (Ukrainian: писанка, plural: pysanky) is a traditionally decorated Ukrainian Easter egg. Pysanka is Ukrainian for Easter egg, and the word is only used for eggs that are decorated according to Ukrainian folk traditions. The word is derived from pysaty, “to write”. Wikipedia

Svitlana Siryk from Ukraine will teach interested people how to decorate beautiful Pysanky eggs.

We want to show our support for Ukrainians in these terrible times they are living in, by highlighting Ukrainian culture and traditions.

Decorating the eggs takes at least one hour and is mainly suitable for young people and adults.

The workshop is not suitable for the smallest members of the family. The paraffin is hot and small children cannot hold the blown-out eggs, so children will instead colour eggs on sheets of paper and draw.

The workshop is free but Svitlana will also have Pysanky eggs she has made for sale.
