Children’s and Youth Light Festival

26.11.2025 kl. 16.00—20.00

Children’s Light Art Moves to LUX Söderlångvik

On November 20th, the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child is celebrated in Kimitoön with a magical light festival, where children and youth from local schools and the Art School present their own light installations inspired by Maurice Sendak’s Where the Wild Things Are. The festival opens at 6 PM in the park outside Villa Lande with music, dance, and glowing instruments.

The installations will be on display in Kimito from November 20–22, after which selected works will move to LUX Söderlångvik, becoming part of our own light experience. This year’s theme is The child’s right to belong, and we are proud to highlight the creativity of children and youth at Söderlångvik.

The festival is a collaboration between schools in Kimitoön, the Art School, Arkipelag Music Institute, and the Skapa project. Lighting design is by Antti Lindholm / Teknoaitta.

Welcome to experience children’s light art – first in Kimito, then at Söderlångvik Manor!

The Light Festival was created to highlight children’s right to art, culture, and creativity. During the project, students on Kimitoön explored their imagination and fantasy worlds, using Maurice Sendak’s classic Where the Wild Things Are as a starting point.

In the artwork The Journey, the children have created imaginative fish they encountered along their journey. The piece also includes a sound installation where visitors can listen to children’s thoughts on imagination.

In the artwork Wild Thing, the children have painted portraits of wild things as they imagined them.

We participated in the Light Festival:

  • Taalintehtaan koulu: preschool, grades 1–2
  • Västanfjärds skola: grades 3–4
  • Amosparkens skola: grade 4
  • Dalsbruks skola: grades 5–6
  • Kemiönsaaren keskuskoulu: grade 6
  • Kimitonejdens skola: elective visual arts, grade 8
  • Art School: all groups

The Light Festival is a collaboration between Kimitoön’s Skapa project, the island’s schools, and the Art School.
